Giving thanks

It's been another grueling week. When it wasn't too hot or humid to ride, it was pouring rain. Had a touch of heatstroke on Wednesday. Plus I had to postpone the trip to my trainer's this weekend to keep from getting behind at work. It has been miserable for the last month - the worst summer since I've lived here.

To avoid the pity party I was fixing to have, I decided to remember what I am grateful for. Here's some of my list:

1. Even though I'm starting to feel my age, I have my health.

2. I have a fulfilling job that, besides paying the bills, keeps me fit and outdoors most of the time. And I have a great relationship with my business partner, who happens to be my Dad.

3. In the past eleven months I've made two dreams come true - finding my awesome horse Valentino, and purchasing a piece of land of my very own.

The more I thought about it, the more things there were to add to my list. A good meditation when you are feeling sorry for yourself. An excellent attitude adjustment.

Today was barn project day. I created a window in Val's stall for cross ventilation and to have a safer spot for the fan. Val mostly ignored the construction, but the reciprocating saw cutting the new window hole was a bit much for him. He sulked out in the far end of the paddock for a while... I had interrupted his breakfast after all.  He returned to give a final inspection :)

Oh, and I'm especially grateful that Cowboy has made a speedy and full recovery from his snakebite.

Cowboy's leg looks good!

It's always good to remember what we have to be thankful, especially when things aren't going quite right.

Hi Kate-

I'm so pleased and frankly surprised about Cowboy's speedy recovery. I anticipated months of tending a ghastly wound, but mother nature (and antibiotics) seemed to take care of it.

So glad to see the leg heal so well!!

And I love your gratitude practice. Sometimes I walk around getting so caught up in all the things I wish I could do (mostly farm/barn/property improvements) I can work myself into a frenzy about what isn't here.

But if I take even 10 seconds to stop and remind myself of all that IS here, I feel wonderful again and happy with the life that is mine. Right now! Not tomorrow or in x number of years.

Billie-

When I was introduced to the idea of staying in gratitude, it seemed trite at first, but it's a really helpful exercise.

Like any other exercise, it only helps if you actually do it. I need to renew my yoga practice as well. :)

I was wondering about Cowboy and how he was doing. I'm so glad he's okay.

The window looks good, nice job.

It's always good to stop and think of all the things we are grateful for. I know I don't do it often enough and I should. All the little annoyances don't add up to a hill of beans when compared with all the good things in my life. When I get five minutes to myself I'm going to try Yoga one of these days. That's a to do on my list.

Thanks Arlene :) I'm so not a carpenter and when I win the lottery I will for sure hire someone to take care of my carpentry needs lol.

I highly recommend yoga - it's especially helpful for riders. Hope you have a good week!

Just wondering how Cowboy's leg is doing? Oh, and I'd like you to stop by and pick up an award. Hope you and Valentino are having a good week.
