From the Farmette #9 - State of Emergency...

Our state doesn't do winter weather that well, hence the state of emergency. I think inland received some pretty hefty snow totals, maybe up to a foot. We got sleet, followed by freezing rain and sleet over night. Temps went under freezing just in time to keep the trees and power lines safe. We finished up with a nice coating of snow. Snow that hides a treacherous icy layer underneath. Driving is a super bad idea. So it is an emergency, if you're stupid enough to drive.

There were a few hangups the morning after. The front door barely opened because the saggy, frozen stiff awning was in the way. And then there was locating and excavating frozen poo balls... Val helped on this one.

It wasn't a pretty snow, so there likely won't be too many good photo ops. I'm just happy that all the critters are safe and accounted for, and that we have heat and water. I made a big pot of lentil soup and a pomegranate cheesecake (what - I have to keep up my strength - it's a state of emergency! ;D) yesterday, so we're good to go here in the Shimmy Shack.

They call this mackeral skies... signifies approaching precipitation. Yes. Yes it does.

Snow pix are better when it's sunny...

He literally froze his a$$...

Frozen on the outside...

...but not on the inside. Who doesn't love when the water flows? :D

Hot mashes for breakie ♥

  1. Glad you made it through your snow fall and freezing temps. I'm guessing this is an event for you warmer weather kids.

Wish I wasn't so used to this type of weather right about now. Snowed here again last night but nothing to write home about. I'm getting a little tired of single digit temps though.

You and Val look awfully cute in your snow gear.

  4. I want some lentil soup. Best stuff ever for winter snow.

I love the pic of Val with his head over yours. Great selfie!

  5. I love the selfie! Very cute! You should be a food photographer, whenever I try to take a picture of one of my food "creations" they seem to turn out pasty and gross. Not very appetizing. It all looks very delish. I'm glad your "weathering" the weather, sounds pretty treacherous on the news.

  6. First, the cake is beautiful!

This has been a very snowy winter. First one in years for us. I am actually sick of snow days, although this year I can use the extra rest.

    Hang in there.

  7. oh, can I come for dinner? Yum! Weird weather when it's not normal for your area makes people crazy. Glad everyone is home safe, and love your mackeral skies, haven't heard that before. We're finally getting some weird (now that the drought is official) winter weather, actual RAIN, woohoo! Thanks for sharing your weather!

  8. As a Canadian, I take pride in being able to accommodate any weather. But, I have to say that this winter really sucks. Be safe and stay warm!!!

  9. so I must confess that those of us in Canada are smiling a little. Feel free to make fun of me when I complain of the heat wave when it's in the 80's. :)

However, I am officially tired of winter and it can leave any time now.

  10. Ugh! Ice under snow is the worst! By the looks of those smiles it looks like you and Val made out fine! How does the arm feel with all this cold weather? AND, that pomegranate cheesecake?!? Are you kidding! I had no idea that there was such a thing! Sounds and looks like heaven!

  13. That cheesecake is beautiful!

This winter has been rotten. I'm beginning to envy all the people who board their horses! This weekend is supposed to get up into the 40s, though. That's downright tropical!

  15. Now that qualifies as a REAL state of emergency! So far this winter we have bypassed any winter precipitation and I'm fine if it stays that way. I so agree with you that running water is priceless.

I have to say that is one fine looking cheesecake!

  16. We ended up with about three inches in the Raleigh area and the schools have been shut down since Tuesday. Since I'm originally from Michigan, I secretly chuckle inside, but we're not very prepared around here for snow and ice.

Val is adorable and I'm glad to hear all is well in your neck of the woods. :)

  17. Glad you have emergency cheesecake. I always like to have emergency poppycock (carmel coated popcorn and nuts)stashed, just in case :). The cake looks beautiful. Glad everyone is okay.

  18. I'm SUCH a fan of a salted hot mash for Laz too. Gets in warm moisture and encourages to drink...but to follow with my own hot soup and a marbled cheesecake, well that is just brilliant. Stay warm! :)

  19. Yegads, I'd rather be buried alive with snow that have freezing rain and treachery. Although, with pomegranate cheesecake in the mix, maybe an emergency isn't such a bad idea after all. (I admit, I do love sugary things!) Glad to hear everyone is staying safe and healthy!
